europa '09 - pics: MADRID

palacio real and the cathedral

i forgot to mention that my first time through madrid was during semana santa (the week before easter) and so, consequently, there were tons of processions at various times, and you would just randomly run into one as you were walking around. check out the guys with the hawks! there were also lots of ladies in black lace and heels - cool!
i was rather shocked and confused by the hoods....rather KKK-ish, no?
here's a link that explains a bit about that and the processions in general.
see this one as well

great sunset, churros and chocolate (which was the consistency of a melted bar of chocolate)

and a triumphal arch - seems everyone's got one...very trendy i guess....

duff! i'm still kicking myself for not buying some. plaza callao, i think. and fun at the hospital.

i like street performers with a sense of irony. the mariachi band. my last plate of tapas...
